Boys: Winamac’s Fredel 5th, Pioneer’s Bowditch 7th behind Western trio

The Rochester girls cross-country team scored 107 points and finished fifth out of 10 complete teams at the Maconaquah Invitational Saturday.

Lewis Cass won with 49 points, and Lewis Cass senior Aftin Griffin was the individual champion in 19:19.

McCutcheon also scored 107 points, but they took fourth place based on the sixth runner’s time tiebreaker.

Allyson Calloway was the Rochester frontrunner, finishing sixth in a field of 94 runners in 20:44. Other Rochester runners included Daniela Ochoa, who was 14th in 21:52; Vivian Miller, who was 32nd in 24:09; Brooklyn Chandler, who was 33rd in 24:22; Adison Hayes, who was 35th in 24:26; Trinity Baine, who was 51st in 26:07; Jocelynn Shafer, who was 73rd in 28:55; Ainsley Horvath, who was 79th in 31:02; Addy Hake, who was 85th in 33:40; Hailey Crissinger, who was 92nd in 37:52; and Emah Bradley, who was 93rd in 37:54.

In addition, Winamac was eighth with 200 points, and Pioneer took ninth with 233 points.

The Winamac frontrunner was Avery Wegner, who was 17th in 22:18. Other Winamac runners included Madelyn Goodman, who was 39th in 24:43; Makayla Werner, who was 54th in 26:23; Roni Garbison, who was 56th in 26:31; and Brooklyn Jachim, who was 80th in 31:15.

Avery Haselby was the first Pioneer runner across the line in 24:50, good for 41st place. Ellie Hines was 43rd in 25:07, Paytyn Dillman was 48th in 25:48, Kenley Jasmantis was 76th in 29:59, and Zadie Fross was 84th in 33:35.

In the boys race, the highest-finishing area team was Winamac, who took sixth in the field of 10 teams with 168 points. Pioneer was eighth with 205, and Rochester had an incomplete team consisting of four runners.

Winamac’s Logan Fredel was the top area finisher, taking fifth in 16:42 one week after running the same time in winning the Caston Invitational. Other Winamac runners included Nathan Pierzchalski, who was 16th in 17:50; Paxton Moon, who was 58th in 20:15; Braylen Becker, who was 69th in 21:19; Elisha Burns, who was 72nd in 21:27; Austin Pratt, who was 81st in 21:57; and Joel Showley, who was 93rd in 23:04.

Dane Bowditch was Pioneer’s frontrunner again, and he broke 17 minutes again, finishing seventh in 16:59. This comes one week after running a 16:57 and finishing second at Caston.

Other Pioneer runners included Eli Hines, who was 40th in 19:17; Braylon Jamerson, who was 62nd in 20:40; Gabriel Scott, who was 85th in 22:25; Kevin Gluth, who was 88th in 22:49; and Isaac Henry, who was 102nd in 23:56.

Leandro Javier was the Rochester frontrunner, taking 38th in 19:05. Joining him were Caden Biernacki, who was 41st in the field of 119 runners in 19:17; Tyson Wachtmann, who was 56th in 19:54; and Lucas Scorsone, who was 75th in 21:35.

Javier is a junior, and the other three runners are freshmen.

Western won the team title with 36 points. The Western trio of Camden Raab, Miles Rudy and Beck Bennett were the top three individuals in 16:04, 16:10 and 16:36, respectively.

Middle school

In the middle school girls race, Rochester was fourth, Pioneer sixth and Winamac 10th in a field of 11 complete teams.

Rochester’s Katelyn Conliff was fourth overall in 12:18.2, and Pioneer’s Brylie Caudle was right behind in fifth in 12:18.7.

Manchester won with 54 points.

The middle school boys race saw Eastern (Greentown) win with 63 points. Rochester was third, Pioneer seventh and Winamac 12th.

Rochester’s Warner DuBois was the top area finisher, claiming seventh place in 10:50. Winamac’s Brody Bonnell was right behind in eighth in 10:53.
