Junior Madilyn Calloway was third overall in 19:31 and helped lead the Rochester girls cross-country team to a fifth-place finish out of 17 teams at the season-opening Manchester Invitational Saturday.
Sophomore Araceli Ochoa ran a 20:32 and finished 18th to also earn a medal. Zoe Seward ran a 21:50, Madison Heizmann ran a 23:28, and Elena Bode ran a 23:50.
Meanwhile, Tippecanoe Valley placed 15th. Freshman Chesnee Miller was 23rd in a field of 130 runners after running a 20:59. Ella Myers ran a 24:29, Maria Henderson ran a 25:13, Talia Holder ran a 25:16, and Ava Craig ran a 26:13.
Culver Academy won the team title with 71 points, four fewer than Valparaiso. The Lady Zs were the defending champions.
Culver Academy’s Lexi Allen won the individual title in 18:39.
In the boys meet, RHS was 12th and Valley 16th out of a field of 20 teams.
Peyton Hiatt was the fastest Zebra, placing 15th in 17:33. Dylan Steininger ran an 18:25, Chris Rohr ran an 18:51, Wesley Steininger ran a 20:38, and Lane Shank ran a 22:18. RHS has no seniors.
Matthew Howes took 24th overall in 17:58 to lead Valley. Chase Miller ran a 19:55, Brady Rodgers ran a 20:09, Evan Myers ran a 20:54, Jace Holloway ran a 21:28, and Grayson Sriver ran a 27:51
Penn’s Mariano Retzloff and Carter Kaser took the top two individual spots in 16:34 and 16:41, respectively. They also led Penn to the team title.
