Caston basketball briefs: Caston boys beat Pioneer for 7th straight win

Scales scores 14, but Bremen rallies past Lady Comets

Boys basketball

Caston 55, Pioneer 36 (Friday): Joey Spin scored eight of his game-high 13 points in the first quarter, and Bryce Rudicel added 10 for the host Comets in a win over conference and sectional rival Pioneer Friday.

Sam Smith returned from a one-game absence and scored nine. Jake Paschen hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight.

Caston hit eight 3-pointers as compared to Pioneer’s two.

Caleb Sweet scored eight points, and Jacob Ziegler added seven for Pioneer. Drew McKaig, who had scored in double figures in his previous four games, was held to six.

Caston led 28-11 at halftime.

Caston won their seventh straight and improved to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the Hoosier North.

Bremen 45, Caston 34 (Thursday): Isabel Scales scored 14 points for Caston in a road loss to Bremen Thursday. Caston finished the regular season 16-6.

Bailey Harness had eight points and eight rebounds. Maddi Smith had five points and nine rebounds.

Caston led 16-6 after one quarter, but Bremen rallied to take a 28-24 halftime lead.

Ellia Foster hit five 3-pointers and scored 25 points for Bremen. The Lady Lions made all 11 of their free throw attempts.

Caston won the JV game 26-11 to finish 11-5. Annie Harsh had eight points, Alexa Finke had six, Ann Ulerick had four, and Macee Hinderlider, Olivia Thomas, Emma Kay and Katie Hutsell had two each.
