Caston boys basketball roundup: Zeider scores 22 in loss to Delphi

Boys basketball

Delphi 62, Caston 51 (Jan. 6): Talon Zeider scored 22 points while Caleb Stinson added nine and Grant Yadon eight for Caston in a road loss to Delphi on Jan. 6.

Zeider hit six of Caston’s seven 3-pointers.

Chase Almager had 29, and Walker Jones added 13 for the Oracles.

Delphi trailed 11-10 after one quarter but came back to take a 27-17 lead at halftime. Yadon scored all six Caston points in the second quarter.

Delphi made more free throws (19) than Caston attempted (17).

Knox 57, Caston 42 (Dec. 15): Talon Zeider and Grant Yadon had 11 points each for Caston in a Hoosier North road loss to Knox on Dec. 15.

Caleb Schwandt scored a game-high 22 points for Knox, and JaShawn Tinsley added 12.

Knox won despite not making a 3-pointer until the fourth quarter and not attempting a free throw in the second half.

Already leading 16-12, Knox stretched the lead to 34-21 at halftime.

Frontier 32, Caston 29 (Dec. 9): Caleb Stinson led Caston with 10 points in a home loss to sectional rival Frontier on Dec. 9.

Lane Hook added six, and Talon Zeider had five.

Chase Winkler scored all 12 of his points in the second half for Frontier. Reid Duncan hit the go-ahead 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.

Caston led 15-9 at halftime, but Frontier came back to take a 21-20 lead after three quarters.

Caston made just three of 10 free throws.

Frontier broke a five-game losing streak dating back to last year.

Carroll (Flora) 68, Caston 62 (OT, Dec. 8): Caleb Stinson scored 18 points, Talon Zeider added 15, and Grant Yadon had 12 for the visiting Comets in an overtime loss to Carroll (Flora) on Dec. 8.

Caston hit 13 3-pointers, including nine in the second half. Stinson and Zeider hit five treys each.

Chris Huerta scored 20 for Carroll. Eli Falkenberg had 14, and Griffin Viney and Eli Harshbarger had 11 each. Harshbarger had six of his 11 in the overtime.

Carroll led 27-23 at halftime. The game was tied at 48 after three quarters and at 58 after regulation. Carroll outscored Caston 10-4 in the overtime.

Caston 63, Pioneer 34 (Dec. 1): Talon Zeider hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 points to lead three players in double figures as Caston routed Pioneer in the Cass County Invitational consolation game at Logansport on Dec. 1.

Caleb Stinson added 14, and Lane Hook had 11 for the Comets (2-1).

Caston hit eight 3-pointers in the first half in building a 44-20 halftime lead.

Lucas Perry led Pioneer with 10 points.

Logansport went on to beat Lewis Cass 49-48 in the championship game.
