Boys basketball
Caston 69, North Miami 36 (Wednesday): Cain Schanlaub scored 21 points, and Talon Zeider added 14 to lead the Caston boys basketball team to a semifinal rout of North
Miami at the Miami County Invitational at Maconaquah Wednesday.
Caston led 19-4 after one quarter and extended the lead to 38-15 at halftime.
Caston hit eight 3-pointers, including three from Zeider in the second quarter alone. Five different Comets – Zeider, Rowan Jellison, Caleb Stinson, Evan Howard and Carter Clingler – hit at least one trey.
Caston will play Class 3A, No. 7 Peru in the final at 8 p.m. today. Peru beat Maconaquah 67-59 in the other semifinal. Peru is the nine-time defending tournament champion.
Landen Hunt and Isaac Floyd had nine points each to lead North Miami.
Caston defeated North Miami for the seventh straight time. The teams will meet again at North Miami on Feb. 23.
