Caston senior catcher Gavin Mollenkopf verbally committed to Bethel University for baseball on a social media post Monday.
Mollenkopf hit .279 with a .519 on-base percentage for the Comets last spring, helping Caston to a 20-8 record. Caston is 46-29 in his three seasons on the varsity, and Mollenkopf also was the catcher on the Comet team that went 11-3 in conference play and won the Hoosier North title in 2024.
“Excited about the opportunity to attend BU and Bethel baseball!” Mollenkopf said on social media. “First I would like to thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ. Also, I would like to thank all my teammates and coaches who pushed me. Go Pilots!”
Mollenkopf also plays quarterback and linebacker on the football team and power forward on the basketball team at Caston.
He is the son of Caston baseball coach Blake Mollenkopf.
Bethel baseball coach Seth Zartman is a 1994 Caston grad.
