Boys: Pioneer’s Bowditch, Hines to join Caston’s Finke, Oaf at regionals

Cross-country
Both the Caston and Pioneer girls and boys cross-country teams had their seasons end at the Logansport sectional Saturday, but five Caston individuals and two Pioneer boys both advanced to this Saturday’s regional.
In the girls meet, Caston finished seventh and Pioneer 10th among the 11 complete teams. Caston sophomore Hannah Rogers and seniors Camila Hernandez-Rios and Myli Rude moved on as individuals.
Among the 80 runners, Rogers was 19th overall and seventh among individuals on non-advancing teams in 23:04, Hernandez-Rios was 32nd overall and 12th among individuals in 23:54, and Rude was 36th overall and 13th among individuals in 24:25.
No Pioneer girls advanced. Juniors Avery Haselby and Ellie Hines took 51st and 52nd in 25:53 and 25:55, respectively.
Lewis Cass won the team title with 51 points. Logansport (88), Northwestern (90), Maconaquah (99) and Western (120) also advanced to the regional at Brownsburg at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday.
Lewis Cass’ Aftin Griffin was the individual champion in 19:17. She beat the rest of the field by 1:07.
In the boys meet, Pioneer junior Dane Bowditch and sophomore Eli Hines and Caston senior Kane Finke and sophomore Daulton Oaf all advanced.
Bowditch was 10th overall and first among individuals on non-advancing teams in 17:28, and Hines was 39th overall and 14th among individuals in 19:13.
Finke was 31st overall and ninth among individuals in 18:49, and Oaf was 38th overall and 13th among individuals in 19:11. The heartbreaker was sophomore Malakai Clayton, who ran a 19:18.7 but got beat out by Logansport’s Jairo Murillo by 0.8 seconds for the 15th individual spot.
Western had four of the top six runners and took the team title with 25 points. Northwestern (61), Kokomo (90), Clinton Central (115) and Rossville (160) also advanced.
Caston was 10th among the 13 complete teams with 243 points, and Pioneer was 11th with 285.
Western’s Camden Raab was the individual champion in 16:05.
The top five teams and top 15 individuals on non-advancing teams both advanced to Brownsburg.
