Caston sports briefs: Scales scores 18 in varsity debut, leads Caston past Argos

Girls basketball

Caston 37, Argos 21 (Thursday): Freshman guard Isabel Scales scored 18 points in her varsity debut to lead the Caston girls basketball team to a win over visiting Argos Thursday.

Scales also had seven steals. She outscored the entire Argos team 12-11 in the second half.

Jordan Clingler added five points and six rebounds. Addison Zimpleman had four points, six rebounds and five steals. Bailey Harness had four points and four rebounds.

Lizzy Edmonds had six points, and Sophie Bollenbacher added five for Argos (0-1).

Caston led 18-10 at halftime. Caston outscored Argos 13-5 from the foul line.

The game marked the coaching debuts for both Argos’ Scott Jennings and Caston’s Josh Douglass.

The win was Caston’s first over Argos since Dec. 18, 2012. Argos had won the previous five meetings.

Caston also won the JV game 30-18 behind Emma Kay’s 12 points. Kinzie Mollenkopf had 10, Macee Hinderlider had five, and Annie Harsh had three.

Spectators to enter at Door 11: The Caston girls basketball team will host North White Friday and Winamac Saturday.

Start time for both games is 7:30 p.m.

Spectators will enter at Door 11 and will be limited to 500, 250 for visitors and 250 for Caston. Tickets are $5.

Players, coaches and spectators are expected to wear a mask when entering and exiting the building, to the restroom and to the concession stand. Masks should be worn in the stands unless you are socially distanced and sitting.

Students in the student section are asked to remain masked while watching the game. The opposing student sectional should use the bleachers behind the visiting bench next to the entrance.
