Caston volleyball roundup: Despite Salisbury’s 7 kills, Lady Comets drop sectional semi to S. Newton

South Newton def. Caston, 25-6, 25-17, 25-17 (Saturday): Callie Salisbury had seven kills, and Madi Douglass added three kills for Caston in a loss to South Newton in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 semifinal at Pioneer Saturday.

Salisbury added two blocks and seven digs, and she had Caston’s only ace.

Natalie Warner had three blocks.

Ellie Zartman led with 11 digs, and Kylee Logan and Grace Colvin had seven digs each.

Douglass had six assists, and Zartman had four.

Colvin led with 14 serves received, and Hadlie Coffing added 12.

Cora Groover and Avalin Bohlinger had 11 kills each for the Lady Rebels. Jada Cripe added nine.

South Newton went on to defeat Pioneer in four sets Saturday night to win their second straight sectional title and their sixth sectional title in the last seven years.

Caston def. DeMotte Christian, 25-14, 15-25, 25-21, 25-13 (Thursday): Natalie Warner put down 16 kills, Grace Colvin had nine, and Callie Salisbury had eight for Caston as they avenged a regular season loss to DeMotte Christian in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 quarterfinal at Pioneer Thursday.

Caston had 15 aces as a team with four different servers having at least two. Ellie Zartman led with five. 

Baylee Harrison had three blocks, and Warner had two.

Madi Douglass led with 14 digs and 19 assists. Zartman also had eight digs and 14 assists. Colvin had a team-high 17 serves received.
