Football

Smith named to IFCA All-Star Team: The Indianapolis Colts, IHSAA and Indiana Football Coaches Association (IFCA) has named Caston senior linebacker Sam Smith to the Indianapolis Colts Indiana High School Academic All-Star Team.

"Succeeding at the highest level both on the field and in the classroom as these student-athletes have done is a tremendous achievement. This is a very competitive team to be a part of and these young men and their families should be proud," Colts Youth Football Commissioner Mike Prior said in a statement. "We are pleased to join with the IHSAA and IFCA to continue honoring these student-athletes each year for a job well done."

Coaches from across the state nominate players, and the IFCA then selects the team.

The team includes 24 players – 11 on offense, 11 on defense and two on special teams. All are ranked in the top five percent of their class, and 16 of the 24 are either class valedictorian or salutatorian.

Smith was one of two Hoosier North players to receive this recognition. Winamac offensive lineman Brendan Day also made the team.
