Culver boys basketball roundup: Rodgers’ season highlighted by triple-double vs. North Miami

Boys basketball

Bremen 58, Culver 35 (Feb. 23): Jack Rodgers scored 19 points to lead Culver in a home loss to Bremen on Feb. 23.

David Hite and Adria Guasp added five each, Caleb McCuen had three, Jonas McCuen had two, and Logan Caudill had one.

Freshman Chase Devine led Bremen with 20 points. Tyrus Graverson added 12, and Camden Hickman had 11.

Bremen led 9-8 after one quarter and extended the lead to 28-20 at halftime.

Culver 67, Granger Christian 35 (Feb. 20): David Hite scored a game-high 17 points for the host Cavaliers in a rout of non-IHSAA Granger Christian on Feb. 20.

Nine different players scored for Culver, including Jack Rodgers, who had nine; Jonas McCuen, who had eight; Logan Caudill, who had seven; Ethan Binion, who had seven; Caleb McCuen, who had six; Adria Guasp, who had six; Brady Kindernay, who had four; and Adam Peterson, who had three.

Culver outscored Granger Christian 25-5 in the third quarter to take a 57-24 lead.

North Judson 59, Culver 49 (Feb. 13): Jack Rodgers scored 28 points, and David Hite had 13 for Culver in a Hoosier North road loss to North Judson on Feb. 13.

Adria Guasp added seven, and Caleb McCuen had one.

Kole Wilcox had 28 points, and Jesiah McDaniel added 15 for North Judson, who would go on to win their Class 2A sectional and regional titles.

Culver led 30-28 at halftime before the Blue Jays would rally to take a 45-41 lead after three quarters.

Pioneer 60, Culver 45 (Feb. 9): Drew McKaig hit four 3-pointers and scored 27 points as the visiting Panthers earned a Hoosier North win over Culver at John R. Nelson Gymnasium on Feb. 9.

Micah Rans and Lucas Perry added nine points each. Shiloh Rine had six off the bench.

Jack Rodgers led Culver with 21 points. Adria Guasp had seven, and Jonas McCuen had six.

Pioneer led 30-11 at halftime.

Culver fell to 7-9 overall, 1-4 Hoosier North.

Culver 61, DeMotte Christian 53 (Feb. 1): Jack Rodgers scored 25 points for the host Cavaliers in a win over DeMotte Christian at John R. Nelson Gymnasium on Feb. 1.

Logan Caudill added 11 points, Adria Guasp had nine, Caleb McCuen had eight, David Hite had six, and Jonas McCuen and Ethan Binion had one point each.

Kyle Terpstra led DeMotte Christian with 13.

The Knights would go on to win Class 1A, Sectional 49.

The game was tied at 25 at halftime. Culver went ahead 40-35 after three quarters.

LaVille 74, Culver 51 (Jan. 26): Jack Rodgers scored 16 points, and David Hite added 14 for the Cavaliers in a Hoosier North road loss to LaVille on Jan. 26.

Adria Guasp added nine, Logan Caudill had six, Caleb McCuen had three, Jonas McCuen had two, and Ethan Binion had one.

Collin Czarnecki led LaVille with 22 points. Lucas Plummer added 18, and Michael Good had 11.

Culver also lost to LaVille 85-57 on Jan. 17 in the Bi-County Tournament quarterfinals.

Oregon-Davis 66, Culver 49 (Jan. 24): Jack Rodgers poured in 14 points, but the visiting Cavaliers lost to sectional rival Oregon-Davis on Jan. 24.

David Hite added nine, Adria Guasp had seven, Caleb McCuen had six, Jonas McCuen and Logan Caudill had five each, and Adam Peterson had three.

Carson Matthew led O-D with 17 points, and Ethan Huitt had 16.

Culver 78, Community Baptist 56 (Jan. 9): Jack Rodgers torched the nets for 39 points and also grabbed 12 rebounds, and David Hite added 22 points for Culver in a home win over Community Baptist on Jan. 9.

Jonas McCuen added 10 points, Logan Caudill had four, and Adria Guasp had three.

Culver led 39-28 at halftime and extended the lead to 62-44 after three quarters.

Community Baptist is a non-IHSAA school located in South Bend.

Washington Township 66, Culver 62 (OT, Dec. 22): Jack Rodgers scored 16 points, and Adria Guasp added 11 for Culver in a loss to the host Senators on Dec. 22.

David Hite added nine, Jonas McCuen had eight, Logan Caudill had seven, Ethan Binion had five, and Caleb McCuen and Brady Kindernay had three each.

Culver outscored Washington Township 19-7 in the third quarter to take a 46-37 lead going into the fourth.

The game was tied at 55 at the end of regulation.

Rob McGowan led Washington Township with 21 points.

Culver 46, Trinity Greenlawn 26 (Dec. 16): Jack Rodgers scored 25 points and was the only double-figure scorer on either team in Culver’s home win over sectional rival Trinity Greenlawn at John R. Nelson Gymnasium on Dec. 16.

Adria Guasp added nine points, David Hite had eight, and Jonas McCuen had four.

Culver 71, Winamac 55 (Dec. 12): Jack Rodgers scored 12 of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter to lead three players in double figures for Culver in a home conference win over Winamac on Dec. 12.

Adria Guasp hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points, and David Hite added 16.

John Malchow had 16, and Justin Potthoff added 13 for Winamac.

Culver led 39-29 at halftime and extended the lead to 52-40 after three quarters.

Culver defeated Winamac for the second straight year, marking the first time they have done that since the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.

Knox 66, Culver 50 (Dec. 9): Jack Rodgers led Culver with 19 points, and Adria Guasp added 10 for Culver in a Hoosier North road loss to Knox on Dec. 9.

David Hite added eight, Ethan Binion had seven, Logan Caudill had four, and Brady Kindernay had two.

Knox led 44-42 after three quarters before outsourcing Culver 22-8 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

The teams have split their last four meetings.

Culver 78, North Miami 63 (Dec. 6): Jack Rodgers notched a triple-double with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, and David Hite added 22 for the visiting Cavaliers in a triumph over North Miami on Dec. 6.

Adria Guasp also reached double figures with 12 while Logan Caudill had eight, Brady Kindernay and Jonas McCuen had four each, and Ethan Binion had three.

Jake Riley led North Miami with 30 points.

North Miami led 34-29 at halftime, but Culver scored 49 points in the second half.

Culver 61, Lakeland Christian 31 (Dec. 1): Jack Rodgers scored 18 points, Adria Guasp added 12, and Caleb McCuen had 11 for Culver in a win over visiting Lakeland Christian at John R. Nelson Gymnasium on Dec. 1.

David Hite added seven, Ethan Binion had six, Logan Caudill had four, Brady Kindernay had two, and Jonas McCuen had one.

Micah Martin had 17 points, and Josiah Rice added 11 for Lakeland Christian in the loss.

Culver improved to 2-1.

They snapped a four-year losing streak to Lakeland Christian with the win.
