Hunnicutt has 2 hits, 3 RBIs for Lady Cavs

Freshman Zoey Hunnicutt had a single, a double and three RBIs, and A.J. Hinds and Kaleigh Fritch combined on a one-hitter to lead Culver to an 18-5 win in five innings over South Bend Career Academy in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 quarterfinal at LaCrosse Wednesday.
Culver improved to 4-18. South Bend Career Academy finished 0-6.
Kaylee Hamilton, Hinds and Fritch each had a hit and an RBI. Hamilton also walked three times, stole two bases and scored three runs.
Meredith Gordon also had a hit. Abbi Kisela, Maegan Pearl and Marissa Milan each had an RBI.
Kaitlyn Kanschat was hit by three pitches and scored three runs. Luci Overmyer walked twice and scored two runs.
South Bend Career Academy pitchers walked seven and hit seven batters.
Culver scored 11 runs in the first inning and then tacked on seven more runs in the bottom of the third.
Hinds allowed one hit and five runs over four innings. She walked one and fanned two. Culver committed five errors, and all five Career Academy runs were unearned.
Fritch struck out three in one hitless inning.
Culver will play Argos in a semifinal at 10 a.m. Eastern Saturday. The winner will play No. 5 South Central (Union Mills) in the final at approximately 1 p.m. Eastern Saturday.
South Central shut out Triton 12-0 in five innings in the first semifinal Thursday night.
