Culver sports briefs: Havron’s save vs. Winamac helps Cavs win Hoosier North title

Boys soccer

Culver 2, Oregon-Davis 1 (Wednesday): Damien Byers and Wyatt Ringer scored in the second half to lead Culver past Oregon-Davis Wednesday.

Byers assisted on Ringer’s goal, which came with less than four minutes left and broke a 1-1 tie.

The game was tied 0-0 at halftime.

After not winning a game last year, Culver has seven wins this year.

Culver 1, Winamac 0 (PKs, Sept. 28): After 80 scoreless minutes of regulation and two scoreless seven-minute overtime periods, Culver beat Winamac Sept. 28 to clinch a perfect 3-0 conference record and the conference title.

Culver made four of five penalty kicks; Winamac made three of five.

Josh Havron made the game-winning save in goal for the Cavaliers.

Culver 3, New Prairie 1 (Sept. 24): Wyatt Ringer, Ethan Keller and Ashton Macedonio each had a goal for Culver in a home win over New Prairie Sept. 24.

Keller’s goal came on a penalty kick in the 60th minute and gave Culver a 2-0 lead.

After Jonathon Bello’s goal in the 62nd minutes cut the lead to 2-1, Macedonio restored the two-goal lead less than two minutes later.

Culver led 1-0 at halftime.

Culver 5, LaVille 3 (Sept. 22): Culver scored all five of their goals in the first half and cruised to a Hoosier North road win Sept. 22.

Joey Pizur scored twice in less than two minutes, and Trayden Schrimscher had a goal and an assist. Ashton Macedonio and Damien Byers also had goals.

Shane Stevens had two assists, and Ethan Keller and Wyatt Ringer had one assist each.

Connor Deason had all three LaVille goals.

Culver led 5-2 at halftime.

Culver 2, Lakeland Christian 2 (Sept. 15): Damien Byers scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute for Culver as they earned a tie with Lakeland Christian Sept. 15.

Joey Pizur also scored off a Wyatt Ringer assist for Culver.

Landon Bremer and Andrew Bosch scored for Lakeland Christian.

The game was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Trinity Greenlawn 5, Culver 0 (Sept. 12): The host Cavaliers suffered a shutout loss to Trinity Greenlawn Sept. 12.

Henry Lee, George Shaffer, Josh Rose, Caleb De Lorenzo and David Cremers each had a goal for Trinity Greenlawn, who led 3-0 at halftime.

Girls soccer

Logansport 5, Culver 0 (Thursday): Yami Mateo scored four goals for the host Lady Berries in the win over Culver Thursday.

Joana Valencia also scored.

Logansport led 3-0 at halftime.

Culver 5, Marquette Catholic 3 (Sept. 29): Baleigh Binkley registered a hat trick and also had an assist, and Gisselle Villegas and Kenzie Banks also scored for Culver in a win over Marquette Catholic Sept. 29.

Kaylee Hamilton had three assists. Villegas contributed an assist.

Culver led 2-1 at halftime but trailed 3-2 after 50 minutes. Binkley scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute.

LaVille 9, Culver 2 (Sept. 23): Gisselle Villegas and Baleigh Binkley each had a goal for Culver in a loss to conference and sectional rival LaVille Sept. 23.

Kenzie Banks assisted on both goals.

Kassie Watts had four goals, and Kylie Gorka added three goals for LaVille.

LaVille led 6-1 at halftime.

The teams could meet again in the Class 1A, Sectional 35 final at Newton Park Saturday.

Culver 6, New Prairie 1 (Sept. 21): Baleigh Binkley notched a hat trick, and Gisselle Villegas had two goals and two assists for Culver in a win over New Prairie Sept. 21.

Kaylee Hamilton added a goal and two assists for the Lady Cavaliers. Eriahna Vela and Tiara Howard each had an assist.

Culver led 3-0 at halftime.

Culver 5, Westville 2 (Sept. 17): Gisselle Villegas scored all five Culver goals in a win over Westville Sept. 17. Kenzie Banks had three assists, and Kaylee Hamilton had two assists.

Kaylee Bowley scored twice for Westville.

Culver led 2-0 at halftime.

Manchester 5, Culver 0 (Sept. 16): The visiting Lady Cavaliers suffered a shutout loss to Manchester Sept. 16.

Beletu Stout had two goals for Manchester, and Lainey Shock, Kindra Stetzel and Emma Garriorr scored once each. Shock had an assist. Stitzel’s goal came on a penalty kick.

Culver 8, Jimtown 3 (Sept. 14): Gisselle Villegas scored three goals and dished out an assist, and Kaylee Hamilton added two goals and two assists for the Lady Cavaliers in a win over Jimtown Sept. 14.

Olivia Compton, Kenzie Banks and Grace Wood each added a goal for Culver. Wood’s goal came on a penalty kick. Eriahna Vela had an assist.

Culver led 5-1 at halftime.

Volleyball

Culver def. Argos, 25-16, 25-11, 25-12 (Thursday): Culver swept the Lady Dragons in three games Thursday.

Alina Pizur had five aces, and Maegan Pearl added four.

Maddie Shedrow had a team-high seven kills and two blocks.

Grace Sieber had 11 assists, and Shedrow had seven.

LaVille def. Culver, 25-12, 19-25, 25-23, 25-16 (Wednesday): Culver lost a Hoosier North home match to LaVille Wednesday.

Elkhart Christian def. Culver, 25-6, 25-12, 25-15 (Sept. 29): Culver fell at home to Elkhart Christian Sept. 29.

Knox def. Culver, 25-12, 25-18, 25-19 (Sept. 24): Culver lost a Hoosier North match to rival Knox Sept. 24.

Victory Christian Academy def. Culver, 25-14, 25-16, 25-15 (Sept. 22): Maddie Shedrow had four kills, and Alina Pizur had three for Culver in a home loss to Victory Christian Academy Sept. 22. Willow Harring had a block.

Grace Sieber and Shedrow had three assists each.

Victory Christian Academy is a non-IHSAA school located in Valparaiso.

Girls golf

Culver places 9th at LaPorte sectional (Sept. 18): The Culver girls golf team shot a 541 and finished ninth out of 10 complete teams at the LaPorte sectional at Beechwood Golf Club Sept. 18.

Alisa Jo Hinds led Culver with a 125, Kaitlyn Stacy had a 131, Sylvia Rodriquez had a 135, and EmmaLee Hillman had a 143.

Culver Academy won the sectional with a 322, and Michigan City (375) and New Prairie (383) also advanced to regional.

John Glenn’s Megan Kobelt and Emma Egger each shot 92 and had the two lowest scores among girls on non-advancing teams and also advanced to the regional. LaPorte’s Molly Menne (95) also advanced.

Culver Academy’s Reese Wilson was the medalist with a 75.
