Culver sports briefs: Softball, baseball season recaps

Softball

West Central 14, Culver 2 (5 innings): Luci Overmyer had two hits and an RBI, and Maegan Pearl had a hit for Culver in a road loss to Class 1A, No. 5 West Central.

Marissa Milam started in the circle and pitched 1 ⅓ innings in relief and allowed three hits and nine runs (eight earned). She walked five, hit four batters and struck out none.

A.J. Hinds allowed one hit and five unearned runs in 2 ⅔ innings of relief. She walked two and struck out one.

West Central scored nine runs in the first inning.

Westville 21, Culver 7: Kaylee Hamilton had three hits and an RBI for Culver in a home loss to Westville May 19.

Maegan Pearl added two hits and three RBIs, and Abbi Kisela and Gracey Sherman each had two hits and an RBI. Jane Wright had a hit and an RBI.

A.J. Hinds, Carolta Coll and Luci Overmyer each had a hit. Culver also stole eight bases.

Marissa Milam allowed four hits and seven runs (four earned) in four innings. She walked six and fanned one.

Pearl allowed six earned runs in three innings of relief, and Hinds also allowed five runs in relief.

Culver pitchers combined to walk 13 and hit three batters.

Already leading 16-7 after six innings, Westville scored five more runs in the seventh.

Bethany Christian 19, Culver 8 (6 innings): Kaitlyn Kanschat singled, doubled and tripled and drove in four runs, but Bethany Christian scored 13 runs in the top of the sixth inning to flip an 8-6 deficit and beat the host Lady Cavaliers on May 18.

Jane Wright added a double, and Abbi Kisela, Luci Overmyer and Maegan Pearl each singled. Wright and Pearl each had an RBI.

Culver also stole five bases, including two by Overmyer.

Marissa Milam took the loss in the circle after allowing 12 runs (five earned) in 1 ⅔ innings. She allowed seven hits, walked three and hit two batters and struck out two.

A.J. Hinds started and allowed seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks in 4 ⅓ innings. She struck out one.

Culver trailed 6-3 going into the bottom of the fourth before scoring five times to take the lead.

Culver 16, South Bend Career Academy 1 (5 innings): A.J. Hinds had three hits, and EmmaLee Hillman, Kaitlyn Kanschat, Luci Overmyer and Marissa Milam had two hits each for Culver in a road rout of South Bend Career Academy on May 17.

Lily Kozubik and Maegan Pearl had one hit each.

Kanschat had three RBIs, and Jane Wright, Hillman, Overmyer and Pearl had two RBIs each. Hinds, Kozubik and Marissa Milam had one hit each.

Culver also had nine stolen bases, including three from Kaylee Hamilton.

Hinds pitched a two-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Culver scored four runs in the first and added eight more in the third to go up 12-0.

North Judson 21, Culver 0 (5 innings): Delaney Kaminski threw a no-hitter and also had three hits and a sacrifice fly and three RBIs at the plate for North Judson in a five-inning win over Culver on May 13.

Luci Overmyer drew a walk for Culver.

Kaminski struck out nine.

A.J. Hinds took the loss in the circle after allowing 10 hits and 13 runs (two earned) in two innings. She walked one and struck out none. Maegan Pearl allowed seven runs (none earned) in 1 ⅓ innings, and Marissa Milam allowed three hits and a run in 1 ⅔ innings. She walked two and struck out none.

Culver committed 10 errors that led to 19 unearned runs for North Judson.

Rochester 10, Culver 1 (Tuesday): Kaitlyn Kanschat had a pair of singles, and Sylkvia Rodriquez, Jane Wright and Luci Overmyer each had a hit for Culver in a home loss to Rochester May 11.

Culver had five hits and also received five walks.

A.J. Hinds allowed 15 hits and 10 earned runs. She walked four and struck out one.

Emma Howdeshell hit her first career homer and also singled, and Kylie Coleman went 4 for 5 with two RBIs and three runs scored for Rochester.

Maddie Heinzmann also singled twice and tripled and drove in two runs, and Emma Goodman also had three hits. Emma Sells had two hits, and Mya Musselman had a single, an RBI and a run scored.

Sydney Haughs pitched 6 ⅓ scoreless innings for the win. She allowed four hits and two walks and fanned two. Howdeshell pitched ⅔ of an inning.

Abbi Kisela had the lone RBI, and Jane Wright had a single and a run scored for Culver.

Culver 20, Triton 4 (5 innings): Luci Overmyer singled, doubled and drove in four runs, and A.J. Hinds and Maegan Pearl had two hits and two RBIs apiece for Culver in a five-inning road win over conference and sectional rival Triton May 10.

Kaylee Hamilton also had two hits. Sylvia Rodriquez had a hit and two RBIs, and Kaitlyn Kanschat also drove in two runs.

Jane Wright and Marissa Milam each had a hit and an RBI.

Culver had 11 hits and also received 10 walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Hamilton had three of Culver’s seven stolen bases as a team. Pearl stole two bases.

Hinds pitched a four-hitter with four walks and one strikeout in the circle. She allowed three earned runs.

Culver scored at least three runs in all five innings in which they batted.

Hinds took the loss in the circle after allowing 12 hits and 14 runs (seven earned) in 6 ⅓ innings. She walked seven and struck out one. Pearl gave up eight runs in ⅔ of an inning of relief.

Culver pitchers walked 10 and hit a batter. The Lady Cavaliers also committed nine errors that led to eight unearned runs for LaVille.

LaVille led 9-6 after five innings before scoring one run in the sixth and 12 more in the seventh.

Kaylee Hamilton had a hit, two walks and four RBIs, and Jane Wright doubled and had three RBIs. Marissa Milam doubled, walked three times and had two RBIs. Abbi Kisela, Sylvia Rodriquez and Maegan Pearl each had a hit and an RBI. Hinds and Lily Kozubik each had an RBI.

Culver had 10 hits and also received 10 walks and three hit-by-pitches. They stole eight bases, including two each for Kanschat and Luci Overmyer.

Culver scored at least four runs in all four innings in which they batted.

Conner Danford pitched a no-hitter with two walks and 13 strikeouts for Oregon-Davis to cap a doubleheader sweep of Culver on May 21.

In the first game, Nolan Green pitched a one-hitter with six walks, two hit batters and eight strikeouts as the Bobcats won 25-0 in five innings.

Culver committed nine errors in the first game and five errors in the second game.

Sophomore Jason Cadle singled for Culver in Game 1.

Culver was the home team in Game 1 and the visiting team in Game 2.
