Despite big 2nd half from Strycker, McKaig, Pioneer falls to Southwood

Girls basketball

Southwood 48, Pioneer 43 (Tuesday): Makenna Strycker scored a game-high 18 points, and Mia McKaig scored 11 of her 13 in the second half, but the host Lady Panthers lost to Southwood Tuesday.

Strycker made all 10 of her free throw attempts in the third quarter and went 12 for 14 from the line for the game. McKaig hit three 3-pointers in the second half. Avery Haselby scored all four of her points in the fourth quarter.

Hali Pershing had 13 to lead Southwood. Gracie Lambert had eight of her 11 in the fourth quarter. 

Southwood led 27-26 after three quarters before pulling away in the fourth quarter. Southwood made three of eight free throws in the fourth quarter and six of 17 for the game.

Pioneer (0-2) will travel to Clinton Central next Tuesday.
