Rochester sophomore Kyra Doran finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16-1 ½ at the West Lafayette Individual Qualifier at Lambert Fieldhouse at Purdue University Saturday.

Rochester coach Ryan Helt, who has been the coach since 2011, said that Doran’s jump is the longest indoor long jump by a Rochester girl since he has been coach. The previous record was 15-7 by Emma Dahlquist in 2016.

Doran also took 17th in the 55 hurdles in 10.15 seconds in her debut in the race. Teammate Audrey Wagner was faster in 9.91 seconds and finished 10th.

Wagner and Doran rank Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, among Lady Z 55 hurdlers since 2011.

Three other Rochester girls distance runners participating included Allyson Calloway, who was eighth in the 3,200 meters in 12:32.55 and set a personal record; Taylor Navara, who was timed in 6:48.74 in the 1,600; Brooklyn Chandler, who ran the 1,600 in 6:56.62; and Ella Hake, who ran the 800 in 3:03.03.

Calloway’s 3,200 time bested her outdoor PR by 21 seconds, set at last year’s LaPorte Invitational.

The lone Rochester girls thrower was junior Ashlynn Weyant, who took 19th in the shot put with a throw of 29-2 ½.

In the boys meet, Harrison Dunwoody set an indoor PR in the 55 hurdles in 8.07 seconds and finished fifth. Teammate Clarence Garrett, running the 55 hurdles for the first time, ran a 9.09 and finished 20th.

Dunwoody’s time ranks No. 1 and Garrett’s time No. 3 among Zebra 55 hurdlers since 2011.

Helt complimented both his girls and boys hurdlers.

“Hurdles will be a strength for RHS in 2025,” Helt said in a statement. “All four hurdles entrants (Dunwoody, Garrett, Doran, Wagner) finished inside the top 20 at Purdue and finished ranked 31st or higher on the IATCCC (Indiana Association of Track and Cross-Country Coaches) small schools performance list as competition closed for the weekend.”

Distance runners included Leandro Javier, who set a PR in the 3,200 in 11:08.69; Reece Johnson, who ran the 1,600 in 5:28.70; and Lincoln Holder, who ran the 800 in 2:26.67 in his debut in the race.

Javier smashed his outdoor PR in the 3,200 by 44 seconds.

Maddox Jewell ran the 55 meters in 7.38 seconds and also long-jumped 17-2 ½ in his indoor debut.

The next meet is at Indiana Wesleyan at 10 a.m. this Saturday. The Hoosier State Relays Qualifier at a site to be determined will close out the indoor season March 29.

The first outdoor meet is at Plymouth at 5 p.m. April 3.
