Eggers, Guffey have 3 hits each, but Panthers fall to Tri-County

Tri-County 9, Pioneer 4 (Saturday): Dawson Eggers went 3 for 3 with two singles, a double and a walk, and Eli Guffey went 3 for 4 with a single, a double and a triple, but the Pioneer fell to Tri-County in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 semifinal at Caston Saturday.
Brodie Howard added two hits and an RBI, and Jaxson Merrick also had a hit and an RBI. Eggers and Guffey also had RBIs.
Noah Miller and Jason Gluth also had singles as part of Pioneer’s 11-hit attack.
Miller took the loss on the mound after allowing seven hits and seven runs (five earned) in four innings. He walked one and struck out three.
Lane Weldy relieved and allowed one hit and two runs (none earned) in two-thirds of an inning. He walked four and struck out none. Howard pitched 1 ⅓ hitless innings with a strikeout.
Grayson Schneider and Tyler Burns both homered for Tri-County.
Tri-County scored five runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good at 5-1. The inning included four hits, a bases-loaded walk and two hit batters.
Tri-County improved to 15-6 and will face Caston in the sectional final at 6 p.m. today. Caston drubbed South Newton 22-2 in five innings in the second semifinal.
Pioneer finished 8-17. They closed the season on an eight-game losing streak.
