Pioneer senior Ezra Lewellen won the title in the 100 meters at the IHSAA boys track and field state finals at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis Friday night.
Lewellen’s time of 10.665 seconds edged out Michigan City’s Esau Haynes, who was timed in 10.669 seconds.
Lewellen had the fastest time in the prelims, running a 10.95 to earn a spot in the finals.
Lewellen is Pioneer’s first track state champ since Madison Kiser won her second of back-to-back state titles at the 2017 IHSAA girls state finals.
Lewellen won the Kokomo sectional in 11.05 seconds on May 20. He was second at the Kokomo regional in 11.01 seconds on May 27.
Elkhart’s Derrick Woods, who beat Lewellen for the regional title, was seventh at state in 10.89.
Twin brother Addai Lewellen was 27th in the 100 meters in 11.55 seconds. He did not qualify for the final.
Ezra Lewellen was also 15th in the 110 hurdles in 15.27 seconds.
