Field’s 5 hits, Hunter’s homer highlight Rochester’s win over Eastern

Rochester 15, Eastern (Greentown) 6 (Monday): Jadyn Field went 5 for 5 with three singles, two doubles and four RBIs, and Brailyn Hunter hit the go-ahead two-run homer as part of an eight-run sixth as the visiting Rochester softball team beat sectional rival Eastern Monday.

Bria Rensberger had two hits and three RBIs at the plate while pitching a four-hitter and racking up 15 strikeouts in the circle.

Aubrey Wilson also had two hits and three RBIs as part of the Lady Zs’ 17-hit attack. Hunter later added an sacrifice fly in the sixth as part of her three-RBI day.

Darah Strasser singled, tripled and had an RBI, and Aubrey Miller and Emma Mathias had two hits each.

Makhia Harding contributed a single and two walks.

Rochester committed six errors that led to four unearned runs for Eastern. The Lady Comets committed five errors that led to six unearned runs for the Lady Zs.

With the game tied 4-4, Field led off the sixth with a single, and Hunter homered. Strasser’s RBI single made it 7-4. Wilson reached on an error with the bases loaded to score Strasser and Miller and make it 9-4. Rensberger followed with a two-run single to score Mathias and Wilson and make it 11-4. Hunter’s sacrifice fly capped the inning.

Elle Winger’s two-out, two-run single in the bottom half cut the lead to 12-6, but Rochester scored three more runs in the seventh, all after nobody on and two out.

Field had a two-run double, and Hunter reached on an error that allowed Field to score.

Rochester improved to 6-3. Eastern dropped to 0-11.
