Girls soccer draw: Culver, Rochester to square off after earlier draw

Valley draws Northwestern in Class 2A

The Rochester and Culver girls soccer teams played to a 2-2 draw under the lights at Culver Sept. 3.

The game was played at night because of the intense heat during the day.

The teams will meet again in a Class 1A, Sectional 36 quarterfinal Oct. 5, and this time, the intense heat will emanate from the sectional spotlight.

Those were among the revelations of the IHSAA draw held Sunday night.

Sectionals week is Oct. 5-10, regional semifinals are Oct. 14, regional finals are Oct. 17, semistates are Oct. 24, and the state finals will be held at the Michael Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on the IU Indianapolis campus on Oct. 30-31.

Sectional tickets are $8 per session or $20 for an all-sectional ticket.

Culver will be the epicenter of the area during girls sectionals week as Culver Community and Culver Academy will both host sectionals.

Here are the area matchups:

Rochester, Argos, Culver, North Miami

Taylor Navara scored both Rochester goals while Eliana Andrzejewski scored both Culver goals during their earlier meeting. 

Rochester held Ava McCune scoreless in their earlier meeting. McCune, a junior, has scored 33 goals this season and 103 for her career. The Rochester game was just one of three games in which she did not score this year.

The Culver-Rochester winner will face Manchester, who received a bye, in the semifinals. Rochester lost to Manchester 2-1 on Sept. 21. Culver does not play Manchester during the regular season.

In the other half of the bracket, North Miami will play Peru, and Argos will play Wabash. 

North Miami is 7-5-1 but lost to Peru 4-0 on Sept. 3. Argos does not play Wabash during the regular season. Wabash is 2-10-2.

Sectional 36 does not have a defending champion.

Tippecanoe Valley

Valley received a bye in Class 2A, Sectional 22 at Culver Academy and will play Northwestern in the semifinals.

Valley is 1-10. Northwestern is 10-1-2 and has scored 43 goals in their 13 games.

In the other half of the draw, Culver Academy drew Maconaquah with the winner to take on Eastern (Greentown).
