Boys track
The Rochester JV boys track team scored 14 points and finished in 13th place out of 14 teams at the Huntington North JV Invitational on May 14.
Mount Vernon (Fortville) won with 136 points.
The meet was for freshman and sophomore boys only.
Freshman Grant Bailey was the only Rochester athlete to score in multiple events. He was fourth in the 1,600 in 4:42.90 and seventh in the 800 in 2:10.41.
Also, Xavier Vance was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 41-1 ½, Trevor Walley was seventh in the pole vault with a clearance of 9-6, and Harrison Dunwoody was eighth in the 110 hurdles in 18.20 seconds after running an 18.03 in the preliminaries.
Rochester coach Ryan Helt said that Bailey’s 1,600 time was the fastest for a Rochester freshman since Wesley Meyer in 2013 and the second fastest time for a Zebras freshman in the last 15 years. Also, Harrison Dunwoody overtook Ben Perez for the fastest 110 hurdle time over the last 15 years, and Carlos Plascencia’s 300 hurdle time of 49.35 seconds was the fourth fastest by a freshman over the last 15 years.
“Wet conditions impacted results today, particularly jumps and throws,” Helt added in a statement.
Other Zebras setting personal bests included Hayden Shuck, who ran the 3,200 in 12:44.73; and Liam Pinder, who threw the discus 90-9.
