Girls golf

Lucy Hayden led the Tippecanoe Valley girls golf team with a 56, but the Lady Vikings finished third in a three-way match against Northwestern and host Peru in their season opener at Rock Hollow Golf Club Tuesday.

Northwestern won with a 211, Peru had a 219, and Valley shot a 247.

Other Valley scores included Maddie Thompson’s 62, Makynna Rentschler’s 62, Taylor Long’s 67 and Jenna Prater’s 72.

Thompson is the only returning player from last year’s Valley team that tied for second at the Three Rivers Conference tournament and finished second at the Warsaw sectional. Hayden, a sophomore, is a move-in from John Glenn, and the other three are first-time varsity golfers.

Leslie Brouyette is the first-year coach. Brouyette replaced Thadd Mellott, who is now the boys tennis coach.

Brouyette said the team canceled its first three matches “to give us time to get to know each other and prepare.”
