High school football roundup: Winamac falls to Knox in season opener

Pioneer held to 102 yards of offense in loss to Lewis Cass

Knox 54, Winamac 19 (Friday): Cash Roth threw a touchdown pass to Maddox Bucinski, and Michael Loehmer and Jadon Jones each had touchdown runs for Winamac in a home loss to Knox in the season and conference opener at Roudebush Field Friday.

Freshman Myles McLaughlin returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and also had touchdown runs of 33 and 78 yards for Knox. Cohen Watson had a 68-yard touchdown run and also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Michael Taylor. Jake Conroy and Xzavier Roman also had touchdown runs.

Knox had a 327-136 advantage in rushing yards. Winamac was also cited for nine penalties.

Knox led 47-6 at halftime.

Winamac will travel to Pioneer Friday. Knox will host Rochester.

Lewis Cass 16, Pioneer 0 (Friday): Pioneer amassed 102 yards of offense and committed four turnovers in a road loss to Lewis Cass Friday.

Cayden Hill led the rushing attack with 35 yards, and he also caught two passes for 15 yards. Tyler Zellers had two catches for 23 yards.

Caleb Sweet had 38 yards passing on offense and also had 12 tackles, including four for losses, on defense. Hill had seven tackles, Zellers had six, and Tuff Uebler and Cody LeGrand had five tackles each.

Sweet also had two sacks. Brenton Gaumer recovered a fumble.

Lewis Cass had 203 yards of offense.
