IHSAA names Lewis assistant commissioner

BY VAL TSOUTSOURIS

Sports Editor, RTC

The IHSAA Executive Committee has approved the hiring of Brian Lewis as an assistant commissioner.

Lewis will administer girls and boys cross-country, boys basketball, girls and boys track and unified track.

Lewis replaces Paul Neidig, who was promoted from assistant commissioner to commissioner upon Bobby Cox’s retirement in August 2020.

Lewis, 37, had spent the previous three years as the athletic director at Jasper High School. He also has previous experience as an athletic director at Monrovia (2013-18) High School and was the football coach at Evansville Harrison (2009-13), Columbia City (2007-09) and North Vermillion (2006-07) high schools.

Lewis played football and earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in 2006. He earned a master’s degree in education from Oakland City University in 2011.

He is the grandson of the late former IHSAA Commissioner C. Eugene Cato.
