Redinger scores 23, Dunlap hits crucial FTs as Argos holds off Triton rally

Girls basketball

Argos 53, Triton 49 (OT, Saturday): Samantha Redinger hit five 3-pointers and poured in 23 points, and Emma Dunlap went 4 for 4 from the foul line in overtime to lift the Argos girls basketball team to an overtime win over Triton in the Class 1A, Sectional 50 final at Culver Saturday.

The win gave Argos their second straight sectional title and their fifth in school history. They improved to 13-12 and will next play Washington Township at 4 p.m. this Saturday at Caston in a regional.

Dunlap had 10 points, and Baleigh Binkley scored nine for Argos, who improved to 13-12 and avenged a 40-36 home loss to Triton on Nov. 8. Ellie Bollenbacher scored six of her seven points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Argos led 39-29 going into the fourth quarter, but Triton outscored Argos 15-5 to force overtime. Argos trailed 49-45 after a Viers layup with 2:43 left, but Argos finished on an 8-0 run.

Dunlap’s two free throws with 45.3 seconds left put Argos ahead for good at 51-49. She made two more from the line with 19.8 seconds left.

It marked the second overtime game of the week for Argos, who also beat Culver 62-58 in three overtimes in the quarterfinal on Wednesday. In 2022, Argos won their three sectional games by a combined total of 89 points. This time, they won their three sectional games by a combined 11 points.

Addyson Viers scored a game-high 24 points for Triton before fouling out. She scored all five Lady Trojan points in the overtime.

Triton guard Kinsey Atkins, who scored 13 points in the Nov. 8 game, was held to two points this time on 1 for 15 shooting.

Argos made more free throws (10) than Triton attempted (3).
