Iverson scores 8, but Lady Warriors drop sectional final to Lewis Cass

Girls basketball
Lewis Cass 45, Winamac 25 (Feb. 3): Marissa Iverson scored eight points, and Maggie Smith and Kandace Kroft scored five each, but the Winamac girls basketball lost to Lewis Cass in the Class 2A, Sectional 36 final at North Miami on Feb. 3.
Aftin Griffin scored a game-high 16 for Lewis Cass, who won their first sectional title since 2005.
Lewis Cass led 13-7 after one quarter and jumped the lead to 26-11 at halftime.
Winamac had won the previous nine meetings with Lewis Cass. Winamac lost to Lewis Cass for the first time since November 2005.
The teams were playing for the first time since Nov. 10, 2018.
This was the first ever postseason meeting between the teams.
Winamac finished 14-10. They have not won a sectional title since 2014.
Lewis Cass will play Fremont in a regional at Bellmont this Saturday.
