Winamac 77, South Bend Career Academy 25 (Tuesday): Kandace Kroft hit five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points, Sadie Popejoy and Marissa Iverson added 19 each, and Corinne Ulerick had 10 as the Winamac girls basketball team routed South Bend Career Academy in a Class 2A, Sectional 34 quarterfinal at LaVille Tuesday.
Kroft’s 94 3-pointers put her second in the state behind Warsaw’s Brooke Zartman (116). Winamac hit 10 3-pointers as compared to South Bend Career Academy’s four.
South Bend Career Academy, who played only five players, made just 3 of 15 free throws.
Winamac led 25-6 after one quarter and 54-11 at halftime. The second half was played with a running clock, per the IHSAA Mercy Rule.
Winamac won their sixth straight game and improved to 18-6. South Bend Career Academy finished 5-14.
Winamac will play LaVille, who received a bye, in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday.
In Tuesday’s other quarterfinal, Knox eliminated Jimtown 38-27. Knox will play Bremen in the second semifinal Friday.
