L. Layer stars as Pioneer takes down Rossville

Pioneer 10, Rossville 5 (Monday): Lois Layer went 4 for 4 at the plate as part of a 12-hit Lady Panther attack and also earned the win in the circle as the Pioneer softball team opened with a road win over Rossville Monday.

Addison Kennell went 3 for 4 with a single, two doubles, a walk and two RBIs. Ava Beasy had a double and three RBIs. Tori Bingaman singled twice and drove in a run. Averi Layer doubled and drove in a run, and Madyson Shaffer had a single. Ava Ott walked, laid down a sacrifice bunt and scored a run.

Lois Layer had three singles, a double and a walk, and she scored three times.

Layer also walked none and struck out 11.

Pioneer jumped out to a 6-1 lead after four innings and never trailed.

Rossville made semistate in Class 2A last year. They won the Class 1A state title in 2024.
