Lady Vikes go on 24-0 first-half run, beat Bremen to advance to sectional final

Mellott scores 20; next up: vs. John Glenn, 7:30 p.m. Saturday

Tippecanoe Valley 56, Bremen 33 (Friday): Kaydence Mellott hit 14 of 17 free throws and scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball team to a win over Bremen in a Class 3A, Sectional 18 semifinal at Bremen Friday.

No Valley player had more than three field goals, but eight different Valley players scored in the first half as part of a 24-0 run after Bremen’s Mikayla Shively scored the game’s first basket.

Corinna Stiles had seven points, and Macy Petersen, Molly Moriarty and Kelsey Cox had six each.

Senior Millie Scorsone, who played her first three prep seasons at Rochester, made her Valley debut and scored two points on a first-quarter field goal off a Chesnee Miller assist.

Valley led 31-12 at halftime.

Valley went 21 for 32 from the foul line while Bremen went 5 for 9.

Valley improved to 20-3. Bremen finished 8-15. This marks Valley’s first 20-win season since 2018.

Shively led Bremen with 12 points. Katie Moyer, who led Bremen with 14 points in a quarterfinal win over Rochester on Tuesday, was held scoreless in the first half and finished with seven.

Valley also beat Bremen 68-32 on Nov. 3 in their regular season meeting.

Valley will play John Glenn in the sectional final at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. John Glenn (10-14) dispatched Knox 39-30 in Friday’s other semifinal.

Valley beat John Glenn 48-31 on Nov. 19 in their regular season meeting.

Valley is seeking its first sectional title since 2017. The sectional champion will play either South Bend St. Joe or Mishawaka Marian at the Jimtown regional on Feb. 11.
