Regional notes:
At least one Rochester golfer – either an individual or the entire team – has competed at every regional since 2014. McLochlin extended that streak this year when he shot a 79 at the Logansport sectional at Dykeman Park Golf Course on Friday.
Of the 18 teams in the field, 14 return from last year’s regional: Guerin Catholic, Carmel, Crown Point, Valparaiso, Lake Central, Faith Christian, Logansport, Chesterton, Twin Lakes, Harrison (West Lafayette), Boone Grove, Munster, West Lafayette and LaPorte.
Guerin Catholic (296), Carmel (297) and Zionsville (318) advanced to state from last year’s regional. Guerin Catholic, Carmel and Zionsville finished second, third and fifth, respectively, at last year’s state tournament.
Sandy Pines is a par 72 with 10 par-fours, four par-threes and four par-fives.
The IHSAA has altered the girls and boys state tournaments beginning with the 2022-23 school year. There will be six regionals, and thus, 18 teams will qualify for the state finals instead of 15. But only the top two individuals on non-advancing teams will make state, instead of the top five.
