Led by medalist Sturch, NM wins Hoosier North title

Teammate Blackford joins her on all-conference; Pioneer’s Cobb, Winamac’s Shell make honorable mention

Led by medalist Bryanne Sturch’s 89, the North Miami girls golf team shot a 412 to win the Hoosier North title at Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek Saturday.

The Lady Warriors beat runner-up North Judson by 11 strokes for the second conference title in school history.

Among other area schools, Winamac was fourth out of even complete teams with a 466, Pioneer was fifth with a 473, Caston was sixth with a 488, and Culver had an incomplete team.

Sturch and Triton’s Chloe McKinney, who shot a 95, were the only players to break 100 in the field of 35 golfers.

North Miami’s Alex Blackford was fourth overall with a 101 and also made all-conference by finishing in the top five.

Pioneer’s Grace Cobb was sixth with a 104, and Winamac’s Sophia Shell was seventh with a 105, and they both made honorable mention all-conference by finishing between sixth and 10th place.

Other North Miami scorers included Savannah Rentschler’s 108 and Kinley Deardorff’s 114.

In addition to Shell, other Winamac scorers included Brianna Patton’s 114, Scarlett Browning’s 121, Lila Lavender’s 126 and Maddie Keller’s 139.

Kassandra Martinez’s 112, Jaelyn Sweet’s 125, Selena Johnson’s 132, and Addie Tabler’s 133 rounded out the Pioneer scorecard.

Audrey Ault was the low Caston player with a 119. Paisley Strasser added a 121, Ava Russell had a 122, Alyssa Smith had a 126, and Lyla Gebhardt had a 132.

Players representing Culver included Violet Hinderlider, who shot a 134, and Audrey Argisis, who shot a 141.

The conference title is the second in school history, according to North Miami athletic director Joe Grant.
