Malchow’s slam comes in Winamac sectional loss to North Judson

North Judson 6, Winamac 5 (Wednesday): John Malchow hit a grand slam, and Wyatt Wheeler had two hits and an RBI, but the Winamac baseball team lost to North Judson in a Class 2A, Sectional 34 quarterfinal at North Judson Wednesday.
Malchow’s two-out slam in the top of the third gave Winamac a 5-1 lead.
Quinn Bales’ two-run single in the third cut the lead to 5-3, and Trey McGowen’s two-run single in the fourth tied it.
North Judson scored what turned out to be the winning run on a Winamac error in the fifth.
The teams combined to draw 13 walks.
Addison Allen, Maddox Bucinski and Brody Wenzler each added a hit for Winamac.
Wenzler pitched the first four innings and took the loss. He allowed three hits and five walks while striking out eight. Winamac committed three errors that led to five unearned runs for North Judson.
North Judson will play Wheeler, who received a bye, in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Eastern Saturday.
