Manuel Ks all 15 batters in unique perfect game against Triton

Stiles, Costello combine for 8 hits, 7 RBIs in softball win over Triton

Tippecanoe Valley 16, Triton 0 (5 innings, Monday): Cameron Manuel pitched a perfect game and struck out all 15 batters he faced, and Marcus Bernicky added two hits and two RBIs for the host Vikings in a season-opening win over Triton Monday.

It marked the second straight year Manuel has pitched a masterpiece against Triton. He tossed a five-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a 14-0 win last year.

Hunter Craft, D.J. Estep and Annikan Pettit each contributed a hit and two RBIs for Valley. Manuel had a double and an RBI. Damion Kohler also had an RBI.

Noah Prater and Owen Kirchenstien each added a hit.

Valley also drew eight walks and stole 11 bases, including three from Prater.

Valley’s game against Warsaw scheduled for Wednesday was postponed due to rain. No makeup date has been set.

Softball

Tippecanoe Valley 14, Triton 4 (6 innings, Monday): Corinna Stiles had two doubles, two singles and four RBIs, freshman Mackaylie Costello had four hits and three RBIs, and Madi Smith had a double, a homer and three RBIs for Valley in a home win over Triton Monday.

Brayden Baney and Sydney Rhamey had two hits and two RBIs each. Abby Bowers had a hit and an RBI. Molly Moriarty had a triple, and Maddie Thompson had a double. Moriarty also drew three walks.

Costello pitched the first 4 ⅔ innings in the circle for the win. She allowed six hits and four runs (all earned). She walked four and struck out six. Stiles relieved and pitched 1 ⅓ hitless innings. She walked two and struck out three.

Triton committed three errors while Valley committed none.

Chesnee Miller won the 3,200 meters and the long jump, and Chloe Shepherd added a win in the discus for the Valley girls track team as they finished second in a four-way home meet against Whitko, North Miami and Lakeland Christian Tuesday.

Valley also won the 4 x 800 relay in 12:21, which they ran unopposed.

Miller ran 12:47 in the 3,200 and also long-jumped 15-1. Shepherd’s winning discus throw was 105-10.

In the boys meet, Valley won nine of the 15 events contested and scored more points than the other three teams combined.

Rex Kirchenstien won both the 200 and 400, and Wade Melanson won both the discus and shot put.

Other Valley individual winners included Wade Jones in the 100, Brady Rodgers in the 800, Isaac Whetstone in the 3,200 and Dawson Perkins in the high jump.

Valley also won the 4 x 100 relay.

Kirchenstien’s winning times were 23.91 seconds in the 200 and 53.25 seconds in the 400. Melanson’s winning throws were 118-4 in the discus and 48-10 ½ in the shot put.

The pole vault was not contested.
