McKee wins weight class, helps Rochester take 5th at Whitko Invite

Girls wrestling

Led by weight class champion Makenna McKee, the Rochester girls wrestling team scored 115 points and finished fifth out of 22 teams at the inaugural Lady Wildcat Wrestling Invitational at Whitko Saturday.

McKee, a sophomore who was a state qualifier, won the 125-pound “A” class. She defeated Western’s Genesis Johnson in the final.

Other Rochester wrestlers who placed included Lilly Gerald, who was third at 105; Rilyn Strasser, who was third at 110; Elise Enyart, who was third at 145; and Laine Peppler, who was third at 155A.

Five of Rochester’s six wrestlers placed.

Western won the team title with 174 points.

Rochester hosts Peru in a dual at 6:30 p.m. tonight. The dual is just the second in program history and the first at home.

The team travels to the Penn Invitational at 9 a.m. this Saturday.
