Medina fans 11, helps Rochester beat Pioneer in 5

Rochester 11, Pioneer 1 (5 innings, Thursday): Ethan Medina pitched a two=hitter with 11 strikeouts, and Gavin Young hit a solo homer to lead the Rochester baseball team past sectional rival Pioneer in Royal Center Thursday.

Tanner Reinartz doubled, walked twice and drove in two runs. Brayden Zink singled and drove in two runs, and Medina also had a hit and an RBI.

Jake Seuferer singled and walked and scored twice, and Luke Hunting and Landen Bumford also had a hit.

Pioneer pitchers Caleb Sweet and Drew McKaig walked seven and hit two batters while Medina walked just one.

Caleb Sweet and Brayden Erickson each had a double for Pioneer. Erickson drove in Sweet with the Panthers’ lone run in the fourth.

Noah Miller drew a walk.

Rochester broke open a scoreless tie with three runs in the third and made it 8-0 with a five-run fourth. They tacked on three more runs in the fifth.

Rochester improved to 4-2. Pioneer fell to 2-3.

Rochester travels to Culver Academy Friday. Pioneer hosts West Central in a doubleheader Saturday.
