Mellott, Ault score in double figures, but Valley falls to Northwestern

Northwestern 59, Tippecanoe Valley 50 (Saturday): Kaydence Mellott hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 points, and Lily Ault added three treys and 11 points, but the visiting Lady Vikings fell to Northwestern Saturday.

Macy Petersen and Corinna Stiles had six points each, and Molly Moriarty had five, and Chesnee Miller had four.

McKenna Layden, a Purdue signee, hit two 3-pointers and scored a game-high 28 for Northwestern. She made 14 of 18 free throws, including six for six in the fourth quarter.

Northwestern went 20 for 30 from the line while Valley went 8 for 14.

Valley led 29-28 at halftime.

Valley lost to Northwestern for the second straight year.

In the JV game, Valley prevailed 53-14 behind Gabby Gonzalez’s game-high 16 points. Lydia Craig added 11, Millie Scorsone had 10, and Hailey Sttokey had eight.
