Girls track

Led by eighth-place finishes from Aspen Moolenaar and Keirsten Nies, the Pioneer girls track team scored 1.33 points and finished in 24th place at the Lafayette Jeff girls track regional Tuesday.

Carmel won with 127 points.

Moolenaar cleared 10-3 in the pole vault and finished eighth. Nies went over at 4-10 in the high jump and finished in a three-way tie for eighth.

Moolenaar and Nies were among five Pioneer athletes to compete at the regional. Among other Pioneer athletes in individual events, Michelle Harding was 11th in the 200 meters in 27.16 seconds and 16th in the long jump with a leap of 15-0 ½, and Rachel Harding was 12th in the high jump with a jump of 4-10.

Also, the 4 x 100 relay took 12th place in 51.29 seconds. The team consisted of Michelle Harding, Rachel Harding, Moolenaar and Nies.

Moolenaar received regional callbacks in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles after finishing fourth in both events at the Kokomo sectional but declined to participate in order to focus on the pole vault.

This marks the first year that Pioneer’s sectional has fed into the Lafayette Jeff regional.
