Nies has 8 kills, but Pioneer falls to Tri-County in sectional semis

Tri-County def. Pioneer, 25-15, 25-10, 25-15 (Saturday): Keirsten Nies had eight kills, five assists and seven digs in her final prep match, but the Pioneer volleyball team lost to No. 2 Tri-County in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 semifinal at South Newton Saturday.

Lois Layer led the team with 15 assists. Aspen Moolenaar had 13 digs, and Madyson Shaffer had 12. Nies had two blocks, and Laylah Demond had one.

Pioneer did not have an ace.

Tri-County went on to lose to South Newton in the sectional final Saturday night.

Pioneer finished 19-14. Nies was the team’s only senior.
