NM wins 2nd straight regional, advances 5 to semistate

Valley’s Sisk advances at heavyweight

The North Miami boys wrestling team scored 129 points to win its second straight Peru regional title Saturday.

Huntington North was second with 91.

North Miami had six semistate qualifiers, including five regional champions. Three of the five remain undefeated on the season.

The regional champions included Braylon McIntire (120), Rex Moore (126), Jordan Simon (190), Hartley Hoover (215) and Logan Smith (HWT)

Hunter Duncan also advanced by finishing second at 113.

The top four in each weight class advanced to the semistate at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne at 9 a.m. this Saturday.

McIntire had two falls to get to the final before winning by tech fall (16-0) in 2:32 in the final to improve to 40-0.

Moore is 36-0 after a 12-5 decision over Peru’s Kwynn Al Boggs in the final.

Simon eked out a 2-0 win over Taylor’s Dylan Underwood in the semifinals before a tech fall (17-2) in 5:37 over Oak Hill’s Jared Prickett in the final.

Hoover, ranked No. 6, needed only 2:55 to record three falls, finishing his day with a stick in 1:01 over Northfield’s Rylan Turner.

Smith improved to 39-4 after a 5-3 win over Northfield’s Cail Dunphy in the final.

As for Tippecanoe Valley, they scored eight points and finished in 17th place in the 18-team field.

Kolton Sisk was the lone semistate qualifier after finishing fourth at heavyweight. Sisk pinned Kokomo’s Stacy Rund in 5:36 in his ticket match before losing by tech fall (15-0) to Smith in 2:00 in the semifinals and to Western’s Hayden Dillinger 7-4 in overtime in the third-place match.

Among other Valley wrestlers, Thad Shambaugh (150) lost by fall in 2:56 to Eastern (Greentown)’s Owen Tolle in the ticket round, and Hunter Clyde (190) lost to Underwood by tech fall (18-2) in 3:52 in the ticket round.

Masen Fincher (215) did not wrestle.
