No. 20 Winamac softball hands No. 27 Valley first loss

Softball

Winamac 9, Tippecanoe Valley 0: Aubrey Gearhart pitched a one-hitter with three strikeouts, and Casey Webb, Maggie Smith and Ella Gearhart had two hits each for the No. 20 Lady Warriors in a road win over No. 27 Valley Thursday.

Webb had three RBIs. Ella Gearhart homered and had two RBIs. Smith had a stolen base and an RBI. McKenzie Hinz had a hit and two RBIs. Emma Goodman had an RBI.

Winamac led 1-0 after five innings before scoring three in the sixth and five in the seventh.

Winamac has won three straight games to improve to 5-2.

Winamac 12, Rensselaer 5 (Monday): Alexis Sheets, Aubrey Gearhart and Ella Gearhart all homered for the visiting Lady Warriors in a win over sectional rival Rensselaer Monday.

Sheets led with three RBIs. Catie Perry added two doubles, a single and two RBIs. Aubrey Gearhart also had two RBIs.

Maggie Smith also had three hits, an RBI and a run scored. Sheets, Ella Gearhart, Aubrey Gearhart, Samantha Perry, McKenzie Hinz and Emma Goodman had two hits each.

Sheets struck out 13 over five innings for the win. She allowed eight hits and four earned runs while walking one. Aubrey Gearhart pitched two hitless innings with two strikeouts in relief.

South Central (Union Mills) 6, Winamac 4 (Saturday): Catie Perry had two hits and two RBIs, and Emma Goodman and Aubrey Gearhart also had two hits, but the Class 1A, No. 20 Lady Satellites rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat Class 2A, No. 20 Winamac Saturday.

McKenzie Hinz contributed a double and an RBI for Winamac. Ella Gearhart also had a double. Ella Hague had a hit and an RBI. Maggie Smith singled.

Hinz started and pitched four scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Aubrey Gearhart relieved and took the loss, allowing seven hits and six earned runs in two innings. She walked two and struck out two.

Winamac led 4-0 going into the bottom of the fifth.

Winamac 12, Oregon-Davis 2 (6 innings, Thursday): The host Warriors rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Oregon-Davis Thursday.

Winamac scored three runs in the second inning to take the lead for good and later added seven in the fifth to push their lead to 11-2.

Winamac has won three straight games – all by 10-run rule – to improve to 3-2.

Winamac 21, North White 11 (5 innings, Tuesday): Russell Compton had four hits, and Mitchell Bonnell, Caleb Good, Tyler Perry and Caleb Seymour had three hits each for the host Warriors in a win over North White Tuesday.

Dylan Brown had two hits, and Carter Field, Maddox Bucinski and Paxton Wallace had one hit each.

Seymour had four RBIs, and Brown and Good had three RBIs each. Bonnell had two RBIs, and Compton, Bucinski and Perry had one RBI each.

Winamac had five extra-base hits, including two doubles from Good, a double from Compton and triples from Seymour and Wallace.

Hayden Clark allowed three hits and six earned runs in 3 ⅓ innings for the win. He walked four and struck out six. Compton pitched the final 1 ⅔ innings, allowing five hits and one earned runs while walking one and striking out one.

Winamac led 13-3 after three innings.

Winamac 15, West Central 0 (5 innings, Monday): Mitchell Bonnell tossed a no-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts, and Hayden Clark had three hits and four RBIs for the visiting Warriors in a five-inning win over West Central Monday.

Caleb Seymour had two hits and three RBIs, and Russell Compton had two hits and two RBIs. Carter Field and Bonnell had two hits and an RBI each. Caleb Good had two singles and a double and stole two bases. Clark had two singles and a triple.

Bonnell hit Carter Lewark with a pitch to give West Central their only baserunner.

Morgan Township 10, Winamac 4 (Saturday): Caleb Good had a double, a triple and two RBIs for Winamac in a home loss to Morgan Township Saturday, and Hayden Clark, Carter Field and Russell Compton added two hits each for Winamac in a home loss to Morgan Township Saturday.

Clark and Dylan Brown each had an RBI.

Tyler Perry, Caleb Seymour and Paxton Wallace had one hit each.

Seymour allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs over six innings and took the loss. He walked one and fanned one.

Morgan Township rallied from a 3-0 deficit after one inning.

Girls track

Winamac 62, Knox 57, North Judson 48 (Tuesday): Brenna Day won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, and Kate Collins won the 800 and 1,600 for Winamac in a home win over Knox and North Judson in a three-way meet Tuesday.

Other Winamac individual winners included Kingsley Kroft in the 400 and Kelsey Wegner in the 3,200.

Winamac also won the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays. The 4 x 400 relay consisted of Lauren Fedel, Ariana Gualajara, Lily Bennett and Kroft, and the 4 x 800 relay consisted of Kroft, Guadalajara, Wegner and Collins.

Winamac takes 2nd at home invite (Saturday): The Winamac girls track team scored 118 points and placed second out of six teams at the Winamac Invitational Saturday.

Carroll (Flora) won the meet with 138 points.

The lone individual Winamac champion was Brenna Day in the pole vault.

Winamac also won the 4 x 800 with a team consisting of Kingsley Kroft, Ariana Gualajara, Kelsey Wegner and Kate Collins.

“Juniors Alexis Sheets and Brenna Day were the high scorers of the team, each with 26 individual points,” coach Adam Bennett said in a statement. “Alexis finished second in both the 100 and 200 races. She also took third in the 400 and fourth in the high jump. Brenna took first in the pole vault and second in both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

South Newton 65, Winamac 54, West Central 41 (April 6): Kate Collins won both the 800 and 1,600, and Brenna Day won the 300 hurdles and pole vault to help Winamac take second in a three-way meet against sectional rivals South Newton and West Central April 6.

The other Winamac individual winner was Kelsey Wegner in the 3,200.

Winamac also won the 4 x 800 relay with a team consisting of Kingsley Kroft, Ariana Gualajara, Wegner and Collins.
