Kolton Floor pitched a no-hitter with two walks and a career-high 17 strikeouts, and the North Miami baseball team defeated Pioneer 4-0 in a Class 1A, Sectional 52 quarterfinal at Caston Thursday.
North Miami improved to 11-10 and will face Southwood in the semifinals. Southwood edged Northfield 10-9 in the other quarterfinal at Caston Thursday.
Pioneer finished 10-14.
Caden Couch and Brenton Gaumer each drew a walk for the Panthers.
Gaumer pitched the first four innings and took the loss. Brayden Erickson pitched three innings in relief.
Gaumer allowed three hits and two runs (both earned). He walked two.
Erickson allowed two hits and two runs (both earned). He walked two and fanned three.
A junior, Floor’s previous career high for strikeouts in a game was 11. This marked the fourth time in his career and the second time this season he had pitched a complete game.
Pioneer also lost 4-0 in the 2021 sectional final on a no-hitter by Southwood’s Carson Rich.
The first semifinal at Caston Saturday will feature North White and the host Comets at noon. The North Miami-Southwood game will follow.
