Paulik tosses 1-hitter in Zebra rout of Maconaquah

Rochester 12, Maconaquah 0 (5 innings, Wednesday): Carson Paulik pitched a one-hitter with no walks and 11 strikeouts, and Parker Casper and Drew Bowers had two hits each as part of a 10-hit Rochester attack in a home Three Rivers Conference rout of Maconaquah Wednesday.

Brady Coleman, Tanner Reinartz, Paulik, Zakk Parks, Conner Dunfee and Linden Wilburn added one hit each.

Casper had three RBIs, and Reinartz and Dunfee had two RBIs each. Paulik, Wilburn and Brayson Flory each added an RBI.

Rochester scored four runs in the second and eight in the fourth.

Dunfee had an RBI groundout, Wilburn and Casper had RBI singles, and Bowers scored on a wild pitch in the second.

The first six batters reached base in the bottom of the fourth. Casper and Reinartz had two-run singles to make it 8-0, and Paulik had an RBI single. Dunfee had an RBI single, and Parks scored on an error on the same play to make it 11-0. Flory capped the inning with an RBI groundout.

Paulik faced 16 batters – one over the minimum. He retired nine straight batters to start the game before giving up Bennett Isenburg’s leadoff single in the fourth. He finished the game with five straight strikeouts.

Paulik was pitching for the first time after tossing an eight-inning no-hitter against Manchester April 30.

Class 2A, No. 4 Rochester is 14-2 overall and 4-1 in the TRC. Maconaquah is 8-5, 3-2.

In other TRC action Wednesday, Northwestern beat Manchester 4-2 to stay in a first-place tie with the Zebras. 

Rochester will host Tippecanoe Valley at 10 a.m. Saturday. Their next conference game is at Peru Monday.
