Pioneer’s Bowditch wins individual Hoosier North title, but Caston takes team crown

Pioneer’s Dane Bowditch held off Caston’s Daulton Oaf to win the Hoosier North individual boys cross-country title at Winamac Town Park Saturday, but Caston put three runners on the all-conference team and won the team title.

Caston scored 19 points, and runner-up Winamac had 41. Pioneer, Argos, North Miami, North Judson, Triton and Oregon-Davis had incomplete teams.

Bowditch was timed in 17:16.3 to top the field of 26 runners. Oaf ran a 17:17.6.

In addition to Oaf, Malakai Clayton, who was fourth in 17:36, and Jack Brumett, who was seventh in 18:25, also made the All-Hoosier North team representing.

Carter Moss, who was 11th in 19:33; Drew Douglass, who was 12th in 19:41; and Isaac Albright, who was 14th in 20:00 made honorable mention.

Caston finished second behind Winamac last year.

Brody Bonnell, a freshman who finished third in 17:30, was Winamac’s frontrunner and also made the all-conference team. Fellow freshman Ethan Showley was 13th in 19:53, and junior Braylen Becker was 15th in 20:14, and they made honorable mention.

Two other Pioneer runners besides Bowditch made all-conference with junior Eli Hines finishing fifth in 18:10 and sophomore Braylon Jamerson taking 10th in 19:15.

Argos sophomore Emry Stackhouse made the all-conference team after finishing sixth in 18:14.

North Miami’s Michael Miser also made all-conference in 18:55.

In the girls race, Triton scored 28 points to win their second straight title and top a field of four complete teams. Among area teams, Pioneer was second with 43 points, and Winamac was fourth with 92.

Caston, North Miami, Culver and Argos had incomplete teams.

All three Pioneer runners to receive all-conference recognition are freshmen: Brylie Caudle was third in 21:08, Jolene Kennell was fifth in 21:29, and Evie Shafer was 12th in 22:44 and made honorable mention.

Caston’s team of three runners was highlighted by junior Hannah Rogers, who was second overall in 21:02 and made all-conference.

Eden Rakoczy, the lone runner representing Argos, was 11th in 22:36 and made honorable mention.

North Miami junior frontrunner Leah Shafer was 15th in 24:03 and also made honorable mention.

Triton sophomore Evelyn Gephart won in 20:44, beating a field of 34.
