Rain at Round Barn cancels ‘Ryder Cup-like’ 4-way golf match

Rain forced the cancellation of a four-way boys golf match at Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek Thursday between Rochester, Tippecanoe Valley, Manchester and Whitko.

Players from Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley, both of whom play their home matches at Round Barn, were teamed up as were players from Manchester and Whitko in what Valley coach Darren Parker called a “Ryder Cup-like” event.

The winning team would receive a trophy.

“In just the couple of holes that got to be played, rivals now paired as partners were sharing friendly banter, smiles and celebrating each other’s pars,” Parker said. “The weather may have chased away the first attempt at this fun new event, but it was pretty evident from the coaches’ perspectives that the match concept is here to stay for this annual event.”

Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester, the home course for Manchester and Whitko, will host next year.
