MONTICELLO – Rain forced the cancellation of the Twin Lakes Invitational girls golf tournament at Tippecanoe Country Club Saturday.

Rochester and Winamac were among the schools competing. The tournament started on time at 2 p.m., and players had completed approximately seven to nine holes each when lightning and booming thunder led to course administrators to blow an air horn forcing golfers off the course.

Copious amounts of rain began falling just as players were leaving the course, and tournament organizers called the tournament at approximately 4 p.m.

The field included 16 varsity teams. Of the 16, five of them – Rochester, Winamac, Logansport, Rensselaer and Twin Lakes – will return to Tippecanoe Country Club for the sectional on Sept. 18.

Other Three Rivers Conference teams in the field included Maconaquah and Peru.

Rochester’s Ava Thomas chips from just off the green on hole No. 4 at Tippecanoe Country Club during the Twin Lakes Invitational Saturday. The tournament was canceled due to rain. Most players had completed seven to nine holes.
