Reinartz blanks as North Miami as Rochester earns first TRC win

BY VAL TSOUTSOURIS

Sports Editor, RTC

Kyle Reinartz pitched a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts, and he also had two hits and two RBIs at the plate to lead the Rochester baseball team to a 10-0 win in five innings over visiting North Miami at Bob Copeland Field April 26.

Evan Elliott and Brock Beehler also had two hits and two RBIs each. Ethan Medina had a single, a walk and two runs scored.

Already leading 2-0, Rochester tacked on four more runs off North Miami freshman hurler Blake Miller. They then got to reliever Braden Burns for four more runs in the fourth to make it 10-0.

Miller allowed six earned runs in three innings. He allowed six hits and also walked four. Miller and reliever Braden Burns combined to walk six and throw six wild pitches.

Meanwhile, Reinartz worked around four walks of his own.

“He was good,” Rochester coach Cory Good said. “I feel like he’s really gotten stronger each outing that he’s gotten out there.”

Good said that the players who are also members of Rochester’s sectional champion basketball team started the season at a disadvantage. Reinartz is one of those players.

“These guys were going to be behind to start the season,” Good explained. “But every outing he gets stronger. He really pitched well and kept North Miami off-balance and put us in a great opportunity to win the game.”

Good said he has emphasized approach at the plate.

“We made the little adjustments ... quickly,” Good said. “Earlier in the season, it was taking two, three times through the lineup before we’d make those adjustments, and now we’re getting on them right away. The approach has been great.”
