Tippecanoe Valley will leave the Three Rivers Conference following the 2023-24 school year, according to a social media post Friday.
WHME sports director Chuck Freeby reported that Valley was leaving the TRC. He also reported that LaVille and Knox had informed the Hoosier North Athletic Conference of its intentions to leave and that Bremen, John Glenn and Jimtown had informed the Northern Indiana Conference that they plan to leave their conference.
RTC could not independently verify WHME’s report on Valley’s plans to leave the TRC or if it was a coincidence that the other five schools also signaled their intention to leave their respective conferences on the same day or if the six schools would announce the formation of a new as-yet-to-be-named conference at an unspecified date.
None of Valley’s social media accounts mentioned leaving the TRC or what the school’s future plans might be.
Assuming the reports are true, that will leave the TRC with nine members and the Hoosier North with six.
Valley opened its doors in 1975. It has been a member of only the TRC in its 48-year history.
If they left, Valley would become the fifth school to be a member at some point and then leave. Caston, Triton, Eastern (Greentown) and Oak Hill are the other four.
The current 10-team conference has been in place since 2015, when Peru and Maconaquah joined.
Valley has already shared the TRC title in football with Rochester and Southwood in 2022-23. They won the TRC outright in girls basketball and boys basketball.
