Zebra frosh Seuferer takes 200 free, Valley’s Hoffman wins 100 free title

Boys swimming
The Maconaquah boys swimming team won their sixth consecutive Three Rivers Conference title with 375 points Saturday.
Rochester was second in the six-team field with 293, and Tippecanoe Valley was third with 222.
Area swimmers won two individual titles.
Rochester freshman Jake Seuferer won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.78. He edged Maconaquah’s Walker Hays, who swam a 1:56.09.
Also, Valley junior Brandon Hoffman won the 100 freestyle in 52.32 seconds. Hays took second in 52.53 seconds.
Hoffman also swam the backstroke leg on the victorious 200 medley relay team. Carson Parker, Karl Parker and Logan Hummitch joined him on the team.
Other Rochester swimmers finishing in the top six in multiple individual events included Seuferer, who was also third in the 100 freestyle; Wes Steininger, who was third in the 200 individual medley and fifth in the 100 butterfly; Dylan Steininger, who was fourth in both the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke; Ethan Brady, who was fifth in the 200 individual medley and third in the 100 breaststroke; R.J. Keranko, who was sixth in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke; and Layne Backus, who was third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle.
Divers Kadin Kelly and Bradly Bickle finished second and third in diving, respectively, behind Maconaquah’s Vincenzo Rooker. Rooker, a state qualifier in 2020, broke his own TRC record with 486.85 points. Kelly’s score of 352.80 points was just behind Cameron Bugno’s school record of 360.05 points.
RHS was third in the 200 medley relay, second in the 200 freestyle relay and third in the 400 freestyle relay.
Valley swimmers who finished in the top six in multiple individual events included Hoffman, who was also second in the 100 backstroke; freshman Carson Parker, who was second in both the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, finishing behind Maconaquah’s TRC record-setting Cole Bretzman both times; Karl Parker, who was third in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly; and Eric Burke, who was fifth in both the 50 freestyle and diving.
The Parker-Hoffman-Hummitch-Parker combination also took second in the 400 freestyle relay.
TRC boys swimming notes
Northfield’s one-person team of Grant Dale won both the 50 freestyle in 22.19 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 55.76 seconds. The 100 backstroke time broke his own TRC record of 56.94 seconds set last year.
Bretzman’s times of 2:08.56 in the individual medley and 1:04.64 in the breaststroke were both TRC records.
Wabash sophomore Seth Blossom won the 100 butterfly in 56.15 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:04.50.
Maconaquah has won the boys swimming TRC title all six years it has been in the conference.
