Rochester Community Schools is expected to hire Cal Stone as its new athletic director, pending approval at Monday’s board meeting.
RTC learned of the potential hiring Friday.
Stone, 25, has spent the last two years as the athletic director at Fremont.
Like Rochester, Fremont won a regional baseball title in 2024, breaking a 25-year drought.
Fremont also won a softball regional in 2024 by beating Southwood.
Fremont also won a girls basketball sectional in 2023-24.
Another highlight of Stone’s tenure occurred when the Northeast Indiana Athletic Officials Association gave its Sportsmanship Award to Fremont for the 2023-24 school year.
If hired, Stone would move closer to his Three Rivers Conference roots. He is a Wabash High School grad, and his father Matt is the girls basketball coach and athletic director at Wabash.
Stone has previous tennis coaching experience and was also an assistant girls basketball coach at Wabash under his father.
The Rochester AD job has been vacant since the board voted not to renew Kevin Renie’s contract on July 25.
