The Rochester girls golf team finished fourth with a 361, and Tippecanoe Valley finished 11th with a 423 at the 18-team Rochester Invitational at Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek Saturday.
Rochester had three of the top 13 individual golfers. Olivia Bailey shot a 77 and was sixth, Molly Moore shot a 79 and was eighth, and Lexi Haughs fired an 87 and was 13th. In addition, Lily Chipps shot a 118, and Audrey Widman had a 133. Chloe Winn shot a 122 with her score not counting towards the team score.
Valley sophomore Savana Miller shot an 82 and placed 11th among the 88 individuals. Brystol Sands added a 110, Maris Overbey added a 115, Jenna Prater had a 116, and Maci Parker had a 122.
Penn won with a 324, Guerin Catholic was second with a 346, and Culver Academy was third with a 359.
Guerin Catholic’s Ali Scott shot a 70 to earn medalist honors. Penn’s Scarlett Biever (72), Clare Tobin (73), Peru’s Piercey Dyer (75) and Mishawaka Marian’s Celia Florkowski (76) also finished in the top five and earned medals.
“The conditions were definitely perfect,” Rochester coach Dan Bailey said. “The weather was perfect. I feel like we played better than what we scored. Molly and Olivia both had one really bad hole, but Lily’s 118 is going in the right direction. That’s where we want her going for sure. Lexi wasn’t happy with her score, but it’s also going in the right direction, but overall, super positive. I know anytime you host an event, the girls put a little more pressure on. They feel like they ought to play pretty well out here, but overall, I think it was pretty good.”
Miller continued to be Valley’s top golfer.
“She for the most part was hitting it pretty well,” Valley coach Leslie Brouyette said. “She just didn’t get the score, whether it be putting or here or there. But that’s OK. She’s fine. She finished strong, and she’ll be alright next week in our conference and sectional.”
Sands’ 110 was a personal best and included a 49 on the back nine.
“Once she figures out the short game and her putting, the scores will stay down there,” Brouyette said.
